White Monster vs Coffee: The Honest Comparison (Argument Settler)
"Monster is bad for you." "Coffee is healthier." You've heard it. But is it true? We dive into the science and settle this argument once and for all.
The Myths First
Let's tackle two persistent myths:
Myth 1: "White Monster is bad for you"
No. Monster Ultra (the white one) contains no sugar, 10 calories, and ingredients that have been assessed as safe by EFSA. It's not a superfood, but it's not harmful either.
Myth 2: "Coffee is automatically healthier"
Only if you drink it black. As soon as you add sugar, the story changes completely.
Caffeine: Practically Equal
| Product | Caffeine | Per 100ml |
|---|---|---|
| Monster Ultra White (500ml) | 150mg | 30mg |
| Black coffee (250ml) | ~95mg | ~38mg |
| Double espresso | ~126mg | ~210mg |
Caffeine-wise, they're comparable. A double espresso comes close to a white Monster.
Sugar: This Is Where It Gets Interesting
| Product | Sugar | Calories |
|---|---|---|
| Monster Ultra White | 0g | 10 kcal |
| Black coffee | 0g | 2 kcal |
| Coffee + 2 sugar cubes | 8g | ~35 kcal |
| 3 cups/day with sugar | 24g | ~105 kcal |
| Green Monster | 55g | 228 kcal |
The reality: If you drink sweetened coffee (2 cubes × 3 cups = 24g sugar/day), you're getting almost half the WHO daily limit. White Monster: zero sugar.
Sweeteners: Are They Safe?
Monster Ultra uses erythritol and sucralose. Both are:
- Approved by EFSA (Europe) and FDA (US)
- Extensively studied in long-term research
- Calorie-free or nearly calorie-free
Erythritol is even found naturally in fruit and has no effect on blood sugar. Sucralose passes through your body largely unchanged.
Are there people who avoid sweeteners? Yes. But science says: they're safe in normal amounts.
Where Coffee Actually Wins
Black coffee has one clear advantage: antioxidants.
- Polyphenols and chlorogenic acid
- Linked to lower risk of liver disease, Parkinson's, type 2 diabetes
- Monster doesn't have these benefits
But — and this is important — these benefits apply to black coffee. With sugar and milk, you dilute them.

When to Choose What?
Choose white Monster when:
- You're on the go and want cold energy
- You don't like coffee
- You want sweet without sugar
- Consistent caffeine dose matters
Choose black coffee when:
- You want the antioxidants
- You're at home/work
- Budget matters (16x cheaper)
- You enjoy it black
Avoid sugary coffee if:
- You think it's "healthier" than Monster — it's not
Conclusion: It Depends
Is white Monster harmful? No. The ingredients are safe, there's no sugar, and the caffeine content is comparable to coffee.
Is coffee healthier? Only black coffee, because of antioxidants. Once you add sugar, you lose that advantage.
What's better for training? Honestly? Neither. Pre-workout gives you more bang for your buck: more caffeine, plus citrulline and beta-alanine that actually improve your training.
The bottom line: Drink what you enjoy. White Monster isn't the enemy. Black coffee isn't the hero. And sweetened coffee isn't better than Monster — even though many people think it is.
Argument settled. ✓
