Magnesium bisglycinate
Magnesium bound to the amino acid glycine, a form that usually sits easier on the stomach and gut than magnesium oxide.
What the research shows
Mixed or small evidence. The effect is uncertain.
Schuchardt's 2017 review shows organic magnesium salts dissolve better than the oxide form, although direct comparisons involving bisglycinate are scarce. Boyle (2017) found only low-quality studies on anxiety and stress, and one author sat on an advisory board for Sanofi, which sells magnesium. Mah (2021) looked at insomnia in older adults and relied on a few small trials with weak evidence.
Who it makes sense for: People with a low magnesium intake who want a form that is gentle on the stomach and gut.
