Digestive enzymes
Products with lipase, protease or lactase that support digestion of fat, protein or milk sugar.
What the research shows
Mixed or small evidence. The effect is uncertain.
De la Iglesia-García (2017) saw clearly better fat absorption in chronic pancreatitis, with two authors who received fees from a maker of enzyme products. Ojetti (2010) saw fewer symptoms after tilactase in lactose intolerance. Levine (2015) saw less fullness after a high-fat meal in healthy people, measured with a questionnaire in a small study.
Who it makes sense for: People with a diagnosed deficiency such as pancreatic insufficiency or lactase deficiency.
