The clinical ranges are the doses at which studies show an effect on sports performance, measured in healthy, trained adults of roughly 70 to 90 kg (mostly men). Lightly dosed does not mean no effect: a can of energy drink contains about 80mg of caffeine and noticeably boosts alertness, but sits below the doses used in performance research.
